I could talk all day about healthy church volunteerism. I love it, I’m convinced it’s important for volunteers and church leaders alike, and one thought always leads to another.
But I’m learning that to communicate well, I need to stick to the point.
Our church is in week 2 of a 4-week emphasis on Mobilizing for Ministry. I made a brief announcement at the beginning of each of our 4 worship services this weekend about what we’re asking our people to do. As I prepared, I had to start by figuring out exactly what I wanted people to know. To keep it brief, I had to write it out and time it. That also forced me to make logical connections between my 3 or 4 points.
I’ve realized for some time that writing well means to “write tight” — to be concise and to make every word work. Now I’m learning that the same is true for speaking. And it’s hard work.
